Magoo's Pizza Parlor Poster

Former Location –
On May 5th, 1965 a group called the “Warlocks” played their first gig at Magoo’s Pizza Parlor. The group was a hit and soon changed their name to the Grateful Dead.

The Warlocks played every Wednesday in May of 1965 here and the club was packed with students from Menlo Atherton High School. On the last Wednesday night gig on May 26, Garcia’s friend Phil Lesh was invited to replace original bassist Dana Morgan.

According to Phil Lesh, the venue discontinued live music because people just wouldn’t stop dancing.
