The cover for The Eagles’ fifth album, “Hotel California” was shot here by David Alexander using a cherry picker to raise the camera for what is now one of the more famous rock album covers. Hotel California went on to become one of the best selling albums of all time with three singles reaching Billboard’s Hot 100: “New Kid in Town“, “Hotel California” and “Life in the Fast Lane“.
Hotel California has been certified 26× Platinum in the U.S., and has sold over 42 million copies worldwide.
The album was recorded at the Criteria and Record Plant studios between March and October 1976, and then released on Asylum in December.
This was the Eagles’ first album with Joe Walsh, who had replaced founding member Bernie Leadon, and is the last album to feature bassist Randy Meisner.
