As you may know, there is no Hotel California in Los Angeles, the cover of the album is actually a picture of the Beverly Hills Hotel.

This was the Eagles’ first album with Joe Walsh, who had replaced founding member Bernie Leadon, and is the last album to feature bassist Randy Meisner.

Yes it was shot in the lobby of the Lido apartments but it really looks like when you walk in to the lobby, like something from the 20’s or 1930’s. When I was running around the streets of Hollywood a little Street punker we stole a safe from a drug dealer in Venice. Took it all the way back to HW.they wanted me to open it with a hammer and a cinder block. Right. I said let’s throw it off a building.. we knew the manger ans she let us in and we ran up the back stairs and threw it out the window twice. It finally hit the concrete next to the empty pool and the door pipes off and the drugs flowed forth. As I was leaving I turned around looked up in the balcony and I swear I saw a bushy haired silhouette turned to my friend and said who’s that, we turned back around he said who, there’s no one up there. Then I said hey this is the inside of the hotel California lobby. He said yup. It’s still there Cherokee and Yucka. Streets Hollywood.
