Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters

Festival Field was the former location of the Newport Folk and Jazz Festival. Muddy Waters’ performance at the 1960 festival is highlighted on his album “At Newport 1960“. A picture of him performing here by photographer Burt Goldblatt was used for the album cover.

Born McKinley Morganfield but famously known as Muddy Waters he is often cited as the “father of modern Chicago blues”. Some songs he is best known for include “Hoochie Coochie Man,” “I Just Want to Make Love to You” and “I’m Ready“.

On April 30, 1983, the great Muddy Waters suffered a fatal heart attack at his home in Westmont, IL and later died at the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove at the age of 70.
