Deja Vu Cover Original Shot

Deja Vu Cover

Cover of the Deja Vu album was shot in 1969, in David Crosby’s backyard in a house he rented in Novato, CA by Thomas O’Neal with art direction by Gary Burden.

That stray dog just wondered in to the shot and they decided to use it anyway.

The appearance of the photograph was intentional. Stephen Stills was fascinated by Civil War-era photography and wanted the group to look as though they had stepped out of an old nineteenth-century photograph.
