Allan McCarthy
Allan was the keyboardist and drummer for Men Without Hats a Canadian group, originally from Montreal, Quebec. The band had a hit in Canada with “The Safety Dance“, which peaked at No. 11 in Canada in May of 1983. The song also spent four weeks at No. 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and was a hit in the UK Singles Chart, peaking at No. 6.
On August 11, 1995, Allan passed away at the age of 38 due to the complications of AIDS.

Allan built the computer system for Men Without Hats, and also came up with new sounds for their synthesizers. He was in several band before joining the Hats, including one called Cham-pang. He composed the music for this band and one of their songs, “Ne Mourrez Pas,” was a minor hit in French-speaking Quebec.
