Buried here:

John “Sean” Byrne

Byrne was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1947. His birth name was John Byrne, but he adopted “Sean” as part of his stage identity to emphasize his Irish roots.

In Dublin he had a band called The Scorpions (though they never recorded).

Byrne joined what became the Count Five by asking to sit in with a local band practicing across the street from his residence. He was accepted and then became a permanent member. He played rhythm guitar and was a principal lead vocalist.

Byrne had a major songwriting role: he conceived the initial version of their signature hit “Psychotic Reaction.”

The idea for the title is said to have come from a class lecture on psychosis and neurosis; a classmate whispered “psychotic reaction,” and Byrne turned that into a song which went to number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 1966.

Other members of Count Five included:

Kenn Ellner – backing and lead vocals, tambourine, harmonica
John “Mouse” Michalski – lead guitar
Roy Chaney – bass guitar
Craig “Butch” Atkinson – drums
David “Dave” Eugene McDowell lead guitar;
