Skip Spence
Born Alexander Lee “Skip” Spence on April 18, 1946, he is known for his work with Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Airplane, as a co-founder of Moby Grape and as a solo artist.
Mental illness, drug addiction and alcoholism prevented Skip from a longer career in the music industry. Much of his life was spent as a ward of the State of California, and either homeless or in transient homes towards the end of his life.
Skip died of lung cancer two days before his 53rd birthday on April 16, 1999.

A fuse that burned way to fast, causing the explosion when the world may not have been quite ready. Great musician/singer/songwriter and catalyst of the highest order. “Seeing” still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand at attention. (Multiply that by five and you have some idea – also…. QUITE an explosion.
