Darby Crash was born September 26, 1958 in Los Angeles. His legal name was Jan Paul Beahm, and early in his music career he used the alias Bobby Pyn.

He co-founded the punk band The Germs with Pat Smear (Georg Ruthenberg).

By late 1980, his heroin addiction had worsened, and the Germs had effectively disbanded.

On December 7, 1980 Darby Crash overdosed on heroin here at the age of 22.

The next day John Lennon was murdered so his death went largely unnoticed. He is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
