In an ABC News report, police say Cornelius’s son was on the phone with him before the shooting, and when the son arrived, he found his father with a gunshot wound to the head. Police responded to the home in the early morning, around 4:30 a.m.
Cornelius was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just before 5:00 a.m.
Initial findings by law enforcement ruled out foul play and treated the wound as self-inflicted (i.e. suicide).
No suicide note was confirmed publicly in many news accounts.
Reports indicate Cornelius had faced health problems in preceding years and had undergone increased stress (including a contentious divorce).
