A shooting took the life of Marvin Gaye, 44, on the evening of April 1, 1984. Motown’s most consistent and enigmatic hitmaker got into an argument with his minister father, Marvin Gaye Sr., at their spacious home in Los Angeles. The senior Gaye put an end to the fight by firing two bullets into his son’s chest. The father pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and received five years probation.
