On March 20, 1991, Eric Clapton’s son Conor fell from a 53rd-floor window of the Galleria Condominium. The 4-year-old died after falling from the window, which had been left open by a housekeeper after cleaning it.

The 4-year-old was in the apartment with his mother, Italian actress Lori Del Santo, and darted past her and the housekeeper to the low window and fell to his death.

Eric Clapton received the devastating news by phone while in a nearby hotel. The event inspired Clapton’s song “Tears in Heaven,” written with Will Jennings.

Conor Clapton is buried in the St. Mary Magdalen Churchyard in Ripley, Surrey, England. He is buried in his father’s hometown, near the graves of his paternal grandfather and grandmother.
