Robert Nesta Marley known professionally as Bob Marley, was a Jamaican singer, songwriter, and musician born in Nine Mile, Jamaica.  He is considered one of the pioneers of reggae. His greatest hits album Legend was released in 1984, and became the best-selling reggae album of all time.

On May 11, 1981 Bob Marley died at the Cedars Medical Center (now known as the University of Miami Hospital). He had been suffering from Melanoma for a couple of years and it had spread throughout his body. He was 36.
