John Graham “Mitch” Mitchell, the drummer who provided the back-beat of the Jimi Hendrix Experience on rock classics died of natural causes (he had been in ill health for many years due to alcohol-related problems) on November 12, 2008 at the age of 62. He died in his hotel room at The Benson in Portland, Oregon after completing an 18-city tour of the US celebrating Hendrix’s music.

” and “Electric Ladyland
“. Additionally, he played on Hendrix’s “The Cry of Love
“, “Rainbow Bridge” and “War Heroes
” as well as other artist’s albums.
Considered one of rock’s greatest drummers, Mitchell was behind the drum kit at Hendrix’s legendary sets at the Woodstock Music & Art Fair, the Monterey Pop Festival and the Isle of Wight Festival.
