Scott Weiland was born October 27, 1967 (as Scott Richard Kline) in San Jose, California. His voice, style and persona made him a major rock-star of his generation, but his career was also repeatedly hampered by substance-abuse struggles.

He best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver and passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts on December 3, 2015. A mix of cocaine, ethanol (alcohol) and methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) was found in his system.

Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive adult male in a recreational motor vehicle located in the parking lot of the Country Inn & Suites near the Mall of America. He died from an accidental overdose at the age of 48.

Unlike many rock-history sites that are studios, venues, or homes, this is a tour stop hotel parking lot — it underscores the less glamorous side of being a touring musician: bus travel, motel parking lots, restless nights, and the hidden pressures behind the scenes.
