Janis Joplin grew up at this home in Port Arthur after a previous home had burned down. Joplin and her sister were able to carve their names into wet cement at the home and her mark can still be found in the back yard of the home!
A Texas historical marker was installed in 2008 in the front yard.
Joplin left the home soon after graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1960 and moved to Austin in 1962 and then onto San Francisco, and later to Los Angeles where she died on October 4, 1970 at the age of 27.
