In 1968, the Jefferson Airplane purchased this former lumber baron’s home. The house served as an office/home/rehearsal hall for the band members. It is located across the street from Golden Gate Park.
Originally released in 1987 as a double LP containing 25 tracks, 2400 Fulton Street is a compilation album of music by Jefferson Airplane named after this iconic location.
The Blues Brothers stayed here following the New Year’s Eve 1979 final show at the Winterland Ballroom.

I recall that this house was painted totally black for a while….
Black with gold trim.
While I was growing up in Los Angeles in the 1960’s I saw the Airplane numerous times. I have always relished thoughts of the 1967 “Summer of Love”. Though I visited San Francisco as a tourist numerous times over the years I had never imagined living there. Then business and personal situations changed and I ended up relocating to San Francisco in the 1990’s – just blocks from 2400 Fulton. San Francisco is truly a different kind of place. Paul Kantner once said something like “San Francisco is 49 square miles surrounded by reality”. I believe that more every day.
The house was painted flat black, yes- with gold trim around doors & windows. The pillars in front were refinished in a highly polished dark wood trim, which made the place quite stricking and attractive. Now it’s just another large house on a busy corner.
I hung out a lot with Jefferson Airplane when my husband, Mallory Earl was working with Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, Kathi McDonald, Gratefuld Dead, CS&N and so many others, It was where i started singing as a background singer and I was only a teenager at the time. I remember clearly the insanity, drugs etc that went on at the Grunt House. I remember a wonderful Christmas Party one year in 1972 before my son was born and Grace Slick gave me a lot of China’s clothes when we were all recording at Wally Heider’s in SF on Hyde St. The next night at Wally Heider’s Grace said you are not having a girl, give me back the girl clothes and Grace gave me all boy clothes and sure enough I had a boy lol. I remember one night Grace was drunker then a skunk at a Grunt House Party and her and I started singing Silent Night, The harmonies were great and it was one of the most exciting nights of my life. I will never forget doing background with the Pointer Sisters on one of Grace’s solo albums, however, I didnt get any credit on Grace’s solo album because I was just starting my career and had to pay my dues. Instead I got to smoke a ton of great weed lol. Those were the days my friend!!! God Bless Rock n Roll Music!!!!!!!!!!!
