On November 23, 1936, in Room 414, a talent scout arranged a session with Brunswick Records who set up a temporary studio in the hotel where Robert Johnson recorded a number of songs including the blues classics “Cross Road Blues” and “Sweet Home Chicago
” among others.
Robert Johnson died at the young age of 27 on August 16, 1938 under mysterious circumstances. The exact location of his grave is not known, however three different markers have been erected at possible sites in church cemeteries near Greenwood Mississippi.
In 2009, John Mellencamp came here to record an album in the same room where Johnson had recorded his classics.
