Former location –
Rod Albin started managing the property in 1964, allowing his brother Peter and other students from San Francisco State to take over several of the rooms and the basement of this Victorian mansion built in 1898.
Peter jammed here with Sam Andrew and James Gurley, which became the genesis of Big Brother and the Holding Company, the band that launched Janis Joplin’s career. Quicksilver Messenger Service and Sopwith Camel were both formed here as well.
