George Barris has been known as the “Kustom King” for a long time (he popularized the “K” in “Kustom.”). His shop built customized vehicles for celebrities: clients included Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and others.

Some of the most famous TV/movie-cars created by Barris include:

The original Batmobile (for the 1966 TV series “Batman”) — built from a 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car.

The Munster Koach (for “The Munsters”) — built from multiple Ford Model T bodies.

Because of these high-profile builds, Barris Kustom became a symbol of pop-culture and custom-car art.

While George Barris passed away in November 2015 (age 89) in Encino, California, his name and company legacy continue. Barris Kustom Industries has since relocated to Ventura County.
