In 1971, Linda Ronstadt had a week long gig on one of the stages in Disneyland. She hired Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, Randy Meisner and Glenn Frey as her backup band.

This was the first time they had all played together and enjoyed it so much they decided to start their own band, which they called The Eagles.
