Former Location –
The Ark was actually the remains of a wheelhouse boat called the Charles Van Damme that was scuttled in Sausalito.
The Sparrow, later Steppenwolf, was practically the house band here in 1966. Stephen Stills and Neil Young could be found gigging here as well as Moby Grape and other local Bay Area bands.
The Santana Blues Band, later better known as “Santana” played their first-ever gig ever here on March 1, 1967.
Other Notable Concerts Played Here Include:
June 19, 1968 – Steve Miller Band
November 4, 1967 – Big Brother & the Holding Company
February 23, 1967 – Moby Grape
February 18, 1967 – John Kay & The Sparrow
December 26, 1966 – The Charlatans
The Ark
Gate 6, Waldo Point Harbor
Sausalito CA 94965
We played there after hours sets three or four times, The Overbrook Express, in 66-68.
The Ark was actually Gate 6 not 5. Was there dozens of times
We played there a lot too, in 1968, PACIFIC FLASH. And yes, it was an after-hours place, the best time to go on was 2AM, and there was a window behind the stage . . . we played until the sun came up.

GIVING TUEDAY IS APPROACHING!
The Ark used to be the Charles Van Damme Ferry – we are currently raising money to exhibit the Paddle wheel and smokestack.
We have 70% of the funds needed to complete the project.
We need the last 30% to close the gap! Time is of the essence as some of the pledges are contingent on receiving the additional 120K by January 31st, 2024 for the project to succeed.
We hope you will join us in supporting this exciting project!
Your tax deductible donation will enable the RBMA to share over 100 years of local waterfront history as a public display, inspiring generations to come.
