The Museum of Making Music (MoMM) is a unique institution devoted to the history of the music-products industry such as instruments, gear, retail, and distribution, not just performers.

It is a program of the NAMM Foundation (and the headquarters of its parent organization, the NAMM Association, are in the same Carlsbad building).

Its mission can be summarized as: explore how instruments and music-products are made, sold, used, and how they connect to people and culture.

In 2021, a significant renovation took place to update exhibits. More recently, in April 2024 the museum reopened after another renovation round, enhancing the interactive instrument areas.
