Former Location –
Wallich’s Music City was a world famous record store that had listening stations where they would just rip the shrink-wrap off of any album that a customer wanted to hear. Each listening station was relatively sound-proof and allowed you to decide if you wanted to purchase the album.
The original location was in Hollywood. There was also another location in the Eastland Shopping Center which is in West Covina.

I worked in the record department in the late 60’s at Music City. When the store began in Topanga Plaza there was a DJ booth facing the mall where (I believe) then AM rock station KFWB had select on air broadcasts. A lot of fun to work there, at one point Niki Sullivan – a guitar player/vocalist in the Crickets, Buddy Holly’s band – was the store manager.
Buying the brand new Beatles White Album at Wallach’s Music City with my parents is ingrained in my memory as an iconic moment.
I remember going there with my sister Stephanie probably between 1964-65 the singer Jackie DeShannon was there to autograph her new 45 ,if you bought it in the store, which I did for my sister. Loved going there & previewing a new album in one of the recording booths!
