Waterloo Records
Waterloo opened on April 1, 1982. Its name “Waterloo” comes from the original name of the city of Austin, which was briefly “Waterloo” in 1839 after being designated as the capital of the Republic of Texas.
Over the decades, it became a cornerstone of Austin’s music scene and has been repeatedly recognized by local media. Every year since opening, the Austin Chronicle has awarded it “Best Record Store.”
The store regularly hosts in-store live performances, featuring local and internationally known artists across genres. Over the years, big names as well as underground and indie artists have performed there.
