Dan Tana, a former professional football player from Yugoslavia founded the restaurant “Dan Tana’s” in 1964. Tana had formerly been the maitre d’ at another Hollywood restaurant, La Scala. Since its opening, it has been a favorite of Hollywood and film industry personalities and professionals. It’s location next door to the Troubadour guarantees that a celebrity sighting could happen at any time.
In 1975, Glenn Frey and Don Henley of the Eagles wrote the lyrics to “Lyin’ Eyes” on a napkin at table 4 here. While there, they started talking about all of the beautiful women there who were obviously cheating on their husbands. Glenn came up with “She can’t even hide those lyin’ eyes” when he noticed a woman with a much older man.
The song was the second single from their “One of These Nights“ album, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was the last Eagles album to feature guitarist Bernie Leadon, who left the band after the tour accompanying the albums release. Bernie was replaced by Joe Walsh.
