Hollywood High School

Hollywood High was established in 1903 as a two room school at the Masonic Temple. As can be seen in the photo above, the school’s mascot was derived from a Rudolph Valentino film of the same name, The Sheik from 1921. 

The original “large Roman-Greco” style building was heavily damaged in the 1933 Long Beach earthquake, and was eventually razed; only the old library building (facing Highland just south of Selma) remains from that original campus.
