University Senior High School

Opened in 1924, Uni, as the locals call it serves Bel-Air, Westwood, Century City and portions of Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Western Encino, Century City, Mar Vista and the city of Los Angeles. Starting in 2018, the high school became an affiliated charter school and changed its name to University High School Charter.

Many famous musicians went to this school… some even graduated. Here are a few of them:

Jan Berry and Dean Torrence

of “Jan & Dean.”

Darby Crash

Darby was a punk rock pioneer as the lead singer of “The Germs.”

John Densmore and Robbie Krieger

of “The Doors.”

Danny Elfman

Danny is the founder of “Oingo Boingo” and an in-demand movie soundtrack composer.

Kim Gordon

Kim played bass guitar, guitar and sang vocals for “Sonic Youth.”

Dave Navarro

Dave is a guitar player that has been in “Jane’s Addiction” and “Red Hot Chili Peppers“.

Eric Avery

Eric was the bass player for “Jane’s Addiction.”

Randy Newman

Randy Newman is a singer/composer that regularly works on movie soundtracks.

Nancy Sinatra

Nancy is a singer best known for “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.” She is also Frank Sinatra’s daughter.

Karla Bonoff

Karla is a singer/songwriter best known for “Someone To Lay Down Beside Me.”
