On October 20, 1955, Elvis Presley performed in this school’s auditorium. It is believed to be the first filmed concert in Elvis’ career, it also was his first concert north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

A few months later, “Heartbreak Hotel” would become the first of 18 chart-toppers for Elvis when it was released as a single on January 27, 1956.

It would be nearly a year before he appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time.
