Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum

The Coliseum has held numerous rock concerts, including five sold-out nights of Bruce Springsteen in 1985 and the highest grossing concerts of 1989, four sold-out nights of The Rolling Stones. Other acts that performed here include U2, Metallica, The Who and Pink Floyd.

The Coliseum hosted “The Monsters of Rock Festival Tour”, featuring Van Halen, Scorpions, Dokken, Metallica and Kingdom Come, on July 24, 1988.

The Coliseum also hosted “Amnesty International’s Human Rights Now! Benefit Concert” on September 21, 1988. The show featured Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Tracy Chapman, Youssou N’Dour and Joan Baez.

On August 20, 1972, Wattstax, a benefit concert that was organized by Stax Records took place in the Coliseum. Over 100,000 Black residents of Los Angeles attended this concert for African American pride. Later, in 1973, a documentary was released about the concert. Performers included: Isaac Hayes, The Bar-Kays, Staple Singers and Albert King.
