Former Location –
Also known as Mellon Arena and Civic Auditorium, many large famous rock and pop acts have played here over the years including The Beatles, The Doors (parts of their album “Absolutely Live” was recorded here), The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Queen, KISS, David Bowie, Van Halen, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Robert Plant and Genesis.
Elvis Presley played his very last New Year’s Eve show here in 1976. The Beatles had their only Pittsburgh concert ever to a sellout crowd at the arena on September 14, 1964.
The Civic Arena closed on June 26, 2010 and the National Hockey League Penguins, who made this their home since 1967, moved across the street to PPG Paints Arena.
