Opened in 1976 and closed in early 1981, Hurrah became known for being the place where Sid Vicious got into a fight with Patti Smith’s brother Todd Smith in December of 1978 which ended up costing Sid nearly two months time at a Rikers Island prison. Hurrah was the first large dance club in New York City to feature punk, new wave and industrial music.
