Cleveland Stadium (also known as Lakefront Stadium and Cleveland Municipal Stadium) was a multi-purpose stadium before it was demolished in 1996 to make way for Cleveland Browns Stadium, now known as FirstEnergy Stadium.
The first concert held here took place in 1966 featuring the Beatles. Other acts that played here include The Jacksons, Bruce Springsteen, U2, The Who and Paul McCartney.
The opening of the nearby Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame was celebrated here with an all-star concert featuring Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Jerry Lee Lewis and others.
The World Series of Rock was a recurring, day-long and usually multi-act summer rock concert held here from 1974 through 1980.

These were true classic rock n roll concerts
Went to 5 of these concerts.. Up all night waiting for the gates to open and had the same seats in the upper deck above 3rd base… What memories
Can you buy these concerts
Where
My 1st concert. 1974 Skynyrd at the old stadium. Myself, JB Kubit, and a long long lost friend a one time resident of Charleston WV. Daryl Menninger. .Still my all time best concert. Thank you to all the guys and gals who ever played in best ‘Band of all time. Also thank you to my late niece (who I will always miss and love) Kelly Letizio who while working for MCA studios made it possible for allowing me the great pleasure of meeting the band in Columbus Ohio in 1997. Thank you Kelly. It was one of the coolest things I ever got to do. They all seemed so humble and down to earth. The concert was also pretty damn good
These were the highlight of my summers in high school. Where else could you go and see such talent in such a short period of time! Cleveland DOES rock!!
Thanks Bill. Those are great memories.
I saved my ticket stubs! I saw June 14, 1975 Rolling Stones , J. Geils, Band , Joe Vitalie. And Tower of Power concert. I remember the crowd being very subdued waiting for the Rolling Stones.
August 23, 1975 I saw Aersmith and made a large banner with the Get your Wings from the album cover. Mahogany Rush, Blue Oyster Cult,, Rod Stewert , and Uriah Heep were also on the bill.
June 25, 1977 I saw Pink Floyd on their Animals tour! Awesome show. My friend made us Pink Floyd silk screen T Shirts!
Just about every weekend there was a rock band playing in Cleveland , during my teen years. I was so lucky to live in Maple Hts. Ohio, suberb of Cleveland , at that time!
Cleveland Rocks! ????
Saw that show on 23.AUG.75… day before my 16th BDay! That was Woodie’s last tour with Rod and Faces. Sadly, Ronnie Lane was not there, however this was an awesome show.
Been there done that! Had a Ball!
Went to high school with a Pat Mraz valley forge class of 69 ?
I still remember camping out (locked away in my car) all night the night before in order to get in- it was terrifying. But OMG! The power & magic of the music was consuming from the word go and always will be! Best of memories from those years
You’re missing the Temptations from your Line-up list. They either performed in 1979 or 1980. I was an assistant to the Cleveland Indians Clubhouse/Equipment Manager, Cy Buynak at that time. When the Temptations came through they insisted on using the home team locker room as their dressing room. The front office for the team insisted that so long as the Temptations and their entourage were present, the clubhouse staff was required to be in the locker room to insure everything stayed in order. That is how I know you’re missing them from your line-up. I was there when they walked in.
They were an interesting bunch to say the least. Some of the things they did in that locker room will never be forgotten. I remember them more for that one night than I do for their music.
Went to the July 15th 1978 ELO headliner Rock Series ! I will never forget that huge dome ( Spaceship) landing on the stage
and lifting off with the band there on stage ! Also, went to Aerosmith in 1979. What great days of Rock those were ! Who says nothing good came out of the 70’s ? I believe those who say so … were not Rockers !
July 28 1979 waiting for the doors to open people got a little crazy. Bottles started to fly because the gates closed after just opening and the pa told us no bottles allowed. That was real smart of those in charge. It was a display of what was about to come inside. After sitting down to enjoy the show more fun started what looked to be m80s or m100s were being tossed from the stands to the field or as far as possible. I watched countless people being carried or helped to the red Cross tents on the field. Then Ted came up on stage to play. He he wanted to know what was wrong with us. He threatened to stop the show if we didn’t stop now. It was a war zone. This was a good idea just to many bad people in the audience. I never went to another concert after this one anywhere. I value my life and well-being more than some I’d guess.
My husband and I went to many of these concerts in our youth , before we met. Fleetwood Mac, ELO the huge ship!l Loved that band, Peter Frampton in his hayday, Foreigner just everyone was Great Huge Lineups every summer. I wanted see the Stones but missed that one! I believed everyone had a chance to see this. But not so. Cleveland Rocked the 70, 80s
7/28/79 lineup has Aerosmith & Nugent in wrong order. My friends and I were there, watched ALL of Aerosmith and then left during Nugent.
Don…Don’t be that guy!
Pink Floyd was awesome! Remember waiting for the gates to open, the crowd was unbelievable and the show was more so. Good times.
Went to the first one skynrd etc. Festival seating people were getting crushed rushing gate d. Moved down to next gate walked in single file.no problem. Poor planning but had a great time once the show began!!
Pink Floyd in 94 Awsome
