Former Location –
A lot of performers played here over the years as it was the primary Tampa venue for touring artists through the 1960’s and 1970’s. Duane Allman made one of only two public performances with Derek and the Dominos here on December 1, 1970. The other live performance with Duane was at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse, New York, the following night.
Other performers include Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Who, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, KISS, Grateful Dead, The Wailers, Ozzy Osbourne and Cat Stevens.
In 1982 U2 opened here for the J. Geils Band on their first American tour.

Curtis Hixon Hall
600 N Ashley Dr.
Tampa FL 33602
In its day, Curtis Hixon Hall was one of the premier rock and roll venues in the South East. Other performers who played there were Jimi Hendrix, The Jefferson Airplane, Ten Years After, Yes, Frank Zappa, The Kinks and Janis Joplin (her show was shut down by the Tampa police and she was arrested on obscenity charges). With the rise of newer and more centrally located concert arenas, it was demolished in 1993 and turned into a park.
