Duval County Armory Poster

On March 26, 1969, having just arrived from Los Angeles, Gregg Allman walked in for his first rehearsal in his brother Duane Allman’s new band. The Allman Brothers Band played their first gig four days later on March 30, 1969 at the Jacksonville Armory.

In 1973, after being replaced with a new armory on the city’s westside in 1972, the building became the City of Jacksonville’s parks and recreation department.  The Department left the building in 2010 which left it abandoned.
