Also known as the Michigan Theatre and the Michigan Building, in the 70’s the location hosted many concerts by such bands as The New York Dolls, Aerosmith, Spirit, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Climax Blues Band, Blue Oyster Cult and KISS.
Iggy & The Stooges played their last show ever here on February 9, 1974. The night before the gig, Iggy Pop went on a Detroit radio station and began to bait a local motorbike gang by calling them a bunch of pussies. The gang later turned up at the show and all hell broke loose. As soon as the band walked onstage, they were immediately bombarded with broken glass, beer jugs, bottles of piss and shovels. Needless to say Iggy had the crap kicked out of him.

i was there as well and he encouraged the audience to pelt him with bottles which they did. After no more than 30 or so minutes into the show he got pelted in the head and said to the audience, F-you Detroit and the show was over
Most of the audience disliked Iggy; he was ALWAYS boo’d! He played their often. I seen sol many bands there! I.beleive that it was an old opera house. Back in its heyday it was beautiful! It had a winding staircase.
Then it was left to the Rock-n-rollers. Eminem did a video after when they knocked it down & put up a parking lot!
What a time I had there & it was just a few bucks to get in!

I had heard KISS did a photo shoot there for the cover of KISS “ ALIVE “ .. Would you know if there was any truth to that?? Thanks in advance
