Pauley Ballroom

Pauley Ballroom (Pauley Pavilion, the famous sports arena at UCLA is unrelated) sits on the campus of University of California, Berkeley, specifically in the Student Union/ASUC Building near Bancroft Way/Lower Sproul Plaza. It has been described as “the second largest venue in the San Francisco East Bay,” making it one of the more substantial indoor venues in the area.

The space can be divided into two parts for smaller or more intimate events:
West Pauley — about 2/3 of the ballroom.
East Pauley — about 1/3 of the ballroom.

The Pauley Ballroom functions largely as a multipurpose event venue, it has a storied past as a concert site, particularly in the 1960s, when the Bay Area was a hotbed of folk and rock music.

In 1965 as part of the “Berkeley Folk Festival” The Jefferson Airplane and Country Joe and the Fish played here. The next year The Grateful Dead joined Country Joe here.
