Former Location –
The Santa Venetia Armory wasn’t originally built as a music venue, it was a military armory used by the California National Guard. But in the mid-1960s, this otherwise ordinary military facility became a notable pop-music venue and teen dance location for local rock shows before the major San Francisco halls like the Fillmore and the Avalon Ballroom became famous.
After the rock-concert era, the Armory eventually returned to other uses. The building itself, like other armories of the period, remained a military facility and community space rather than a formal long-term music venue.
