Former Location –

The Straight Theater, formerly know as the Haight Street Movie Theater was demolished in 1981, but it had a short but distinctive life in the history of Rock N’ Roll. The Grateful Dead used this location as a rehearsal hall before its official opening in July, 1967. They appeared with Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Country Joe and the Fish, The Charlatans and others for the grand opening.
