My Dad owned the Orphanage. Invested in it because Von Seltzer married his 2nd wifes daughter, who talked him into it. It was a wild ride through the rock 70’s and I had the best damn times getting educated in not what to do. Places like this made San Francisco the magical place it was and still is.
SoI guess we are kinda related then. William was my father. I say was because he passed away last year. And yes, Cathy was of course my mother. Miss her dearly.
Hi, I used to work the ticket booth at the O. 1971 or so for over a year. I worked at most of the clubs in SF. I was the girl who took your money and explained ,more often than you think, sorry you’re not on the guestlist. Once one club found out that they were ending up with more money at the end of the night they started recommending me to each other.. I never stole money and frankly I felt I should be paying them for the music.
I was very underage but that never was an issue.
Did you ever go to the club?
My band ABEL was the band who opened the clip for William Von Sultzer and his wife. It was a great era for music with many musicians with the great bands of the times coming and sitting in. Loved the front of the stage with pillows for the audience to sit and check out the bands. Great era of music in the SF scene. Cats from Santana, Rolling Stonrs, Grateful Dead, Buddy Miles, sly, etc etc would hang out and many nights jammed with our band. We became somewhat of the house band with many other bands also becoming regulars at this HOT spot.
