Former Location-
In 1960, the Kingston Trio purchased this location when it was known as “Yacht Dock” and kept that name until about 1966 when the name was changed to “The Trident” which was serving as a musical entertainment venue serving natural foods and which had become a night time hangout location.
Janis Joplin was a regular and had her own table, Jerry Garcia, Joan Baez and the Smothers Brothers were often seen here.
After The Rolling Stones great 1972 performances at the Winterland, Bill Graham rented this restaurant out for the night to celebrate the event.
As of January 2026, a recorded message on the reservation number for The Trident said the Sausalito restaurant was “closed indefinitely, effective immediately.” The restaurant’s abrupt closure brings the curtain down on a colorful, decades-long era, during which the bayfront spot was a hangout for rock royalty.
