Ray Charles Memorial Library

Ray Charles was a pioneer who bridged gospel, blues, R&B, soul, and more — dubbed “The Genius.” Housing his personal archive in this building gives a tangible sense of his working world.

When it opened, it was initially available to school groups; later expansion to general public access was planned

The building reflects his commitment — not only to his craft but to creating a permanent space for his work: his offices, his recording space, and later the archive/museum.

The museum is run by the Ray Charles Foundation — the non‐profit he established in 1986 to aid under-privileged children (particularly those with hearing difficulties) and promote education in music.

Access to The Library is by appointment only.
